New England 2000 Venture Capital Forum

About New England: 2000
Over 300 of the region's top investment professionals attended Springboard 2000: New England on November 3, 2000. Harvard Business School's Burden Hall Auditorium remained jam-packed the entire day as the 30 selected entrepreneurs took the stage.
On November 2, 2000, the night before the conference, a Venture Capital Awards Dinner was held at Harvard Business School honoring those venture capital firms that have made a significant investment in women-led businesses. Two area firms, Weston Presidio Capital and Zero Stage Capital, were honored for having invested in women-led firms at more than three times the national rate.
BancBoston Capital/BancBoston was recognized for its leadership in the advancement and promotion of women to senior level positions throughout the firm.
New England rates second only to Silicon Valley in the volume of venture capital investments in the region. According to the PricewaterhouseCoopers Money Tree Survey, a record $2.61 billion was invested in 179 New England companies in the second quarter of 2000. This more than doubles the dollar amount from the same period one year ago.
Where do women entrepreneurs fit into this picture? The National Foundation for Women Business Owners reports that as of 1999, the region clocked more than 500,000 women-owned firms, employing more than 1 million workers, generating over $180 billion in sales and revenues. The Center for Women & Enterprise established a Women’s Venture Center in early 1999, the first hands-on program providing coaching, technical assistance and access to investors for women seeking equity capital.
The National Women's Business Council partnered with the Center for Women & Enterprise to produce Springboard 2000: New England.
